The Italian club confirmed the 37-year-old’s demise on Sunday, March, 2020 in a statement.
“It is a sad day for Pergolettese, who mourns the loss of Andrea Micheli, former President of the Company and always sponsor and fan. Best wishes to Cesare, Anna and the whole Micheli family,” the release read.
Micheli is the second club president to die of the dreaded virus in less than 24 hours following Saturday’s death of Lorenzo Sanz, a former Real Madrid president.
Italy reported nearly 800 coronavirus deaths on Saturday and saw its toll for the past month reach 4,825, the highest in the world.
Lombardy is the worst-affected region in the country with 3,095 deaths.
Globally, more than 13,000 people have now died from the COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
