Mr Ndubuisi nwadikeFollowing the firestorm pressure mounted on the Liberian President, George Weah to remove the Nigerian-born Ndubuisi Nwabudike as the head of the National Elections Commission (NEC), President George finally consented and withdrew him.
Initially, when President George made the nomination of Cllr. Nwabudike and others known, the social media space in Liberia was thrown into commotion as the president's critics, opposition politicians and others called out the President to revoke the nomination of his friend.
Nwabudike was mainly singled out by the President's critics because of his Nigerian origin even though he had naturalised as a Liberian. Many of the opposition even tagged him as a fraudster.
Well, this is really sad as this shows how tribalism has eaten into the fabrics of the African system.
Before Nwabudike was appointed as the chairperson of the country's NEC, he had served well as the head of the Liberian Anti-Corruption Commission. He worked so hard and helped reformed some polices of Liberia. What did they pay him back with? Rejection! Just because he has Nigerian roots.
I bet this cannot happen in civilised climes but only here in Africa that we allow ourselves to be governed by incompetent fellows only because they share sane roots with us.
