Barcelona played a few hours before Juventus on Saturday, but both players still found ways in getting their milestone, but one thing is in common between both of them, it is 1000.
Barcelona got back to the same team we all know them to be, and the thrashed Eibar 5-0 at the Camp Nou, with Lionel Messi scoring four of those goals, and in doing that, he has set a record no player – dead or alive – has ever done before now.
Messi went a few games without scoring a goal from about 33 shots, but he hit back at his critics with four goals. His first in the 14th minute, he scored the second in the 37th minute, before scoring his hat trick three minutes later. He scored his 4th goal three minutes to the end of the 90.
With the four goals, Lionel Andrés Cuccittini Messi has now become the only player ever, dead or alive, to have 1000 goal contributions for both club and country. He has scored 696 goals and provided 306 assists, making a total of 1002 goal contributions, in 853 matches.
For Cristiano Ronaldo, he also got to a milestone of 1000, scoring the first goal for Juventus in the 2-1 away win against SPAL 2013, which was the 11th consecutive Serie A goal he will be scoring in.
For stepping out for Juventus on the day, Cristiano Ronaldo made his 1000th career appearance for clubs and country, while also setting another record with that feat.
Ronaldo became just the third player to score in 11 consecutive games in the Serie A. the first player to do it was Gabriel Batistuta in 1994/95 campaign before last season’s top goalscorer Fabio Quagliarella. Now the Portugal captain has added his name to that elite group.
Also, the 35-year-old has become the only player to score in eleven games in a row in three different competitions. He first did in the Spanish La Liga with Real Madrid, then in the UEFA Champions League, he has now done it again in the Italian Serie A
Ronaldo may not have had a thousand goal contributions like Lionel Messi, but he is not far behind. In his 1000 games, he has scored 725 goals, provided 251 assists with 53 hat-tricks.
I tell young people that care to listen, instead of fighting for who is the greatest between these two players (Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi), why not choose to love both of them and enjoy?
These guys are not at their peak anymore and are still doing great things at a different pace. Both are setting different records and are not disturbing each other. The truth of the matter is, they are helping each other grow, but fans choose to insult each other on social media.
Ronaldo and Messi have won the last eleven Ballon d’Or awards, and at this rate, one of them may still win the 2020 edition of the award, as they are not willing to drop the bar.
